In our world of new advancements, humans have become more dependent on technology. Americans have begun to use automated machinery to carry out simple tasks and make our lives easier. New technology is brought into our world from the minds of scientists and engineers by the second. Eventually, humans will be surrounded by computers and mobile mechanics that execute society's everlasting desires. Published in 1953, Ray Bradbury clairvoyantly created a world much like ours in the pages of his novel Fahrenheit 451. In the novel, our main character, Montag, is inside his firemen headquarters when he questions Beatty, the Chief of Firemen, about the history of the “Firemen of America” and is answered with “brief historics” involving the first inferno building being “established (in) 1790” with the “first fireman (being) Benjamin Franklin” (Bradbury 32). The individuals seem baffled by these questions, assuming they are compliant with what they have been asked. But, in reality, Benjamin Franklin is known as a former Founder of the United States and a voter of English literature. Likewise, in modern society, the government has been known to “control people's access to information” and “alter” historical fragments to keep the “public (hidden)” from the truth (Barrett). People are kept away from knowledge that could affect the opinions and decisions of others. This could lead to revolts or protests against the government because truthful information is removed.
