Back in the 1800s there was a lot of inventions such as the hot air balloon, or the submarine, but one stood out from all of the rest. That of course in the telegraph, this invention changed the lives of many people, and the country as a whole. With this invention we could talk from a long ways, almost instantly. It was mainly used by the people who could afford it at that time, because of the pricey ness of it. I was made by a man whose name was Samuel Morse, you may know his name because of “Morse Code”. Morse code was the way you communicated through the telegraph, which consisted of taping on the machine, which would leave long or short marks. The first message send through the telegraph was “What hath God wrought” and this was the beginning of something revolutionary. One of the things that was the most important was that we could now talk to people from other countries, in 1866 america laid the first telegraph line throughout the atlantic ocean. Which changed everything from wars to how people in the media conducted business. Before the telegraph people would be using letters to communicate with each other. And how things would work is people would mail a letter through the post office and the letter. It would then be transferred through any mode of transportation such as boats, or wagons, this could be a long process to go through for most people. So when the telegraph came out it was widely used among the rich. But adventually the middle class could use them once it was relatively old. During the civil war this was a big deal as well, because people could transfer messages to each other quickly so people could quickly devise plans. But on the down side the South could not use telegraphs because they were more agriculture based and didn't have too many factories for technology.
