In order to get the audience to believe in his lessons, Shepard addresses the audience with rhetorical questions that make them ponder their future and their work ethic. He brings the audience into the future, sixty years from now, and asks if they would be “proud of those last sixty years” (12) or if they would be mad that they “could have done a little more?” (13). In doing so, Shepard makes the audience examine if they’re going to appreciate their accomplishments. This kind of reflection makes the audience more likely to hold on to Shepard’s lesson because they face negative future consequences.
One lesson is to not let others control your life. Another lesson is letting people help one’s self. The final lesson is to limit the amount of alcohol one consumes. Firstly, a lesson learned from reading the novel, is that one should not let other people control one’s life.
Ultimately, the three lessons of money can’t buy you everything, loyalty is more important than money, and to think before you do something are all very significant to the plot of the novel. These three lessons are not only meaningful to the plot, but they are also meaningful to life in general. Om taught them to stand up for themselves, to endure things when they get hard, and taught them to defend what they think is right. Almost daily, Om would “borrow” something from one of his classmates. Every day at lunchtime, Om would go around asking the students to give him money, or even parts of their own lunches. Saying no to Om wasn’t an option. Everyday, everyone handed over what Om wanted.

In Mary Lawson's "Crow Lake" and Tom Wayman's "Students," the students seem to undermine the importance of their teachers. The professer in "Students" is more observant of the learning techniques used by his students to pass his class than he appears. In "Crow Lake," the teacher is more passionate about the topic she is teaching than she is portraying. In both passages, the teachers have more knowledge and experience in regards to their topic than they are given credit for by their students. In both Mary Lawson's "Crow Lake" and Tom Wayman's "Students," the students are oblivious to the signifgance of their teacher's passion and experiences for their courses.
The lesson being taught is to not trying and use unethical means to get things done, and to get things done with intending to hurt the people around
Pg 90, 1st column,-“we tend to loose sight….continue to grow himself.” This quote was basically about it takes a village to raise a child. The parents in this movie were sending their children off to be raised by all of these teachers. John Keating taught them to keep an open mind when others were teaching conformity. He encouraged them to examine other areas of life that others were not letting them explore.
Teaching the students self-control is important and takes time. Students will make mistakes but teaches need to make the mistake a learning tool by teaching the students a better way to conduct themselves. He writes “When we are unreasonable with students and humiliate them into submission, the benefit is really for the teacher and not the students”, this really hit home for me, I have seen that happen and the student shut down and he had a miserable rest of his year. We need to instill confidence in our students not talk poorly to them.
Keating such a great teacher. Well Mr. Keating understands how much stress and pressure the students are in, many of their parents hoping they will become something greater in the future. It seems that Mr. Keating is probably one of the teachers who really cares about his students than most of Welton staffs and teachers. Through the movie, Neil who started “The Dead Poet Society” again who Mr. Keating started a few years back. It was a cave where Neil and his friends would go at night to take turns saying their poem lines that they think is interesting.

Throughout my training, I implemented various strategies for engaging students in small groups and rigorous lessons. My role as a teacher is to communicate effectively, be respectful, and have self-worth and confidence. I did fear making wrong choices throughout this field experience. I set high expectations the students to achieve high goals. Teaching to me opened doors to many students’ lives.
