Napoleon Bonaparte
Napoleon Bonaparte live for 51 years (1769-1821). He was a French military leader and he conquered much of Europe in the 19th century. Napoleon was born on an island called Corsica. Napoleon was the second of eight children and he was born to Carlo Bonaparte, who was a lawyer. Although his father was a lawyer, his family was not wealthy so Napoleon’s childhood wasn’t as easy as some kids. Napoleon went to school in mainland France and he learned the French language there. He graduated from a French military school in 1785. After he graduated he became a second lieutenant in the French army.

That summer Napoleon planned to leave his army in Egypt and return to his French army. Napoleon gained power in France and soon crowned himself emperor in 1804. Napoleon won many wars, but after a disastrous invasion of Russia in 1812, he left the throne. In 1815 he returned to power and won the Battle of Waterloo. He left the throne again and then died at 51.
Accomplishments
Napoleon worked to restore stability to post-revolutionary France. He centralized the government; he made things such as banking and education easier; supported science and the arts; and sought to improve relations between his regime and the pope. One of his most significant accomplishments was the Napoleonic Code, which streamlined the French legal system and continues to form the foundation of French civil law to this day.
Napoleon’s Marriages and Children
In 1796, Napoleon married Josephine de Beauharnais. In 1810, he married Marie Louise, the daughter of the emperor of Austria. The following year, she gave birth to their son, Napoleon François Joseph Charles Bonaparte, who became known as Napoleon II and was given the title king of
