Nikola Tesla: How He Impacted Us
“Archimedes was my ideal. I admired the works of artists, but to my mind, they were only shadows and semblances. The inventor, I thought, gives to the world creations which are palpable, which live and work”. (Brainy Quotes) This quote from Nikola Tesla shows how inventing is an art form it creates beautiful “pictures” which work and live and help with daily activities. Nikola Tesla was an inventor who created many useful inventions that we all use today. Nikola Tesla was an important figure in American History because he invented Alternating Current power, the Tesla Coil, and the Induction Motor. Nikola Tesla was born on 10 July, 1856, In Smiljan, present day Croatia, to Milutin and Djuka and Tesla. (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Nikola Tesla was a genius early in his life. When in his early education he could do calculus in his head and was accused of cheating by his teachers. Here he had the idea and created his first invention the telephone repeater (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Tesla left this job and moved to the United States in 1884. When he came to the U.S he began working for Thomas Edison. Here Tesla began to flourish and show his true inventive talent. He worked with Edison until 1885 leaving on the basis of salary but he also had a different outlook on inventing and used different methods (Encyclopedia of World Biography/Britannica). Tesla worked as a ditch digger until 1887 when he had a meeting with an official from the Western Union Telegraph Company. This official allowed Tesla to get back on his feet and get back into inventing.
