Thomas Hutchinson (9 September 1711 – 3 June 1780) was a businessman, historian, and a prominent Loyalist politician of the Province of Massachusetts Bay in the years before the American Revolution. A successful merchant and politician, Hutchinson was active at high levels of the Massachusetts government for many years, serving as lieutenant governor and then governor from 1758 to 1774. He was a politically polarising figure who, despite initial opposition to Parliamentary tax laws directed at the colonies, came to be identified by John Adams and Samuel Adams as a proponent of hated British taxes. He was blamed by Lord North (the British Prime Minister at the time) for being a significant contributor to the tensions that led the outbreak of
Joseph Warren: The Forgotten Man of the Revolution Firebrands were an important part of the American Revolution, but the most underappreciated Firebrand was, perhaps, Joseph Warren. He, the eldest of four sons, was born in Roxbury, Massachusetts in June, 1741 where his family had been living for half a century (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov). He continued the tradition, living in Boston prior to the Revolution. Though his father, Joseph Warren, a farmer, died when Warren was just 14, he was raised thinking and feeling like a true American. This early exposure to American ideologies would influence and promote him later in life with his fight for freedom and to convince other colonists of the freedom they deserved.
Thomas Cromwell was a man who came to power during the reign of HenryVIII. While that is a true statement, it also fails to provide a clear indication of what Cromwell’s power consisted of and how much of it he actually had. Cromwell was Henry’s chief minister and vicegerent , which meant he had a large degree of influence over the initial stages of Henry’s reformation. Cromwell’s rise occurred because he supposedly was able to solve the kings problem of divorce. Diarmaid MacCulloch credits Cromwell with spearheading, if not greatly directing the religious developments of Henry’s England.
King George III and the british parliament would go to any extent to get what they needed no matter how colonist felt about it. King George III and the british parliament were responsible for most of the development of the American Revolution because they passed many harsh and unfair acts, they deprived the colonist of their free and natural
During the Boston Massacre five civilians were killed and six injured. Despite his unkindness towards the British Government he believed that the British soldiers should receive a fair trial. He defended the soldiers skillfully. Not only did was he a great lawyer he was also leading member of the Continental Congress. In 1774 he was elected as the representative of Massachusetts.
Oliver Cromwell was one of the major leaders of England during the Age of Absolutism. Cromwell was born on January 30, 1599, to Robert and Elizabeth Cromwell in Huntingdon, England. His beginnings were very humble and very normal for that time. He went to school at Huntingdon Grammar School which was a free school attached to the hospital. Oliver went to college for a few years, but then got called back when his father died in order to take care of his sisters and mother.
People’s opinion on Oliver Cromwell are either you think he is corrupt and evil or you think he is a hero and a savior to England. Oliver Cromwell starts off as a regular citizen that was married to Elizabeth Cromwell and had at least seven kids. After eight years of parenting, he decided that he wanted to become a member of parliament. The Parliament elected Oliver Cromwell in 1628, and he was in Parliament that same year.
These two men, stated above are one of the many which shifted a change in mind in England during and after the Glorious Revolution, which can be considered a part of the
Notable figures involved with the Revolution harbored the concepts of the philosophes and instilled thoughts of liberation into the colonies. John Locke, an English philosopher, reflected on these ideals in Two Treatises on Government writing, “…whenever government tries to take away and destroy the property of the people or reduce the people to slavery, it puts itself in a state of war with the people,” (Document 1). Locke promoted individual thinking in the government that would later set the foundation of modern democracy in America. He did not favor the way government prevented popular sovereignty and believed that doing so would only lead to unrest with the general public, which was the case with Britain’s relationship with the colonists. Another figure originally from England, Thomas Paine, strived to convince Americans to separate from British oppression in The American Crisis.
Cromwell was born on the 25 April 1599 into one of the greatest families of Huntingdonshire
Oliver Cromwell was an interesting leader no doubt, his actions that were committed over 350 years ago are still somehow effective today. For instance, Cromwell permitted all christians to practice their own religion as long as they weren't trying to push it onto others or causing a disturbance. This is still familiar today as we have the first amendment which allows people to practice their own religion without consequence as long as they aren't causing a disturbance. Even though he gave people somewhat freedom to practice their religion he was still very unfair to those not of his beliefs. He also embodied his puritan beliefs into law which made him very unpopular with non-puritans.
Cromwell enters the service of Henry VIII himself, from here his career would soar into new heights of power, manipulation and wealth. Cromwell grew through Parliament quickly earning the loyalty and trust of the King. In 1529, Henry and Cromwell began ensuing that the clergy were subject to common law in England, rather than the church laws of Rome. Henry appointed Cromwell to his Council in November 1530, as a result he soon became practiced on parliamentary matters. His importance in Henry’s council grew, before long he was the King’s most essential minister.
How far do you agree that Oliver Cromwell led an evil regime but left a great ideal? For centuries there has been a debate as to whether Oliver Cromwell was a murderer and a tyrant or a conquering hero. As a very religious man who relied heavily on signs he thought were of God to take action, Cromwell’s strongest wish had always been to get to an agreement before having to resort to more ruthless means to achieve his goals. Thus, it could be argued that the demonization of Cromwell is only well-founded and deserved in the eyes of those who suffered the consequences of his acts, or lack thereof.
Whenever the peasants of Medieval Europe got mad at their king they usually resorted to revolution. William Wallace is a legendary Scottish hero.
People of England. It is I, Oliver Cromwell. You all may know me from the Parliament. I know how all of you feel right now because of the king and him constantly fighting with us to raise taxes. I was born in a very poor family myself.
