They were lead by Anubis the god of the dead. At one end was Osiris on a throne accompanied by other deities and 42 judges. The spirit of the deceased had to say a negative confession in front of the deity and the courts. Their heart would be placed on a scale with a feather on the opposite side. If the heart weighed more than the feather the deceased would be devoured by Amit a monster half lion half hippopotamus. If the heart didn’t weigh more they could enter the kingdom of Osiris and attain the fields of Iaru.
