The process of building the tomb demonstrates the power Qin Shi Huangdi held throughout his empire. When his tomb was all complete, Qin Shi Huangdi didn’t want people to know where he was buried, so the workers planted trees which covered the tomb and made it look like a mountain. However, “In spring 1974, peasants excavating a well more than a mile from his mausoleum at Mount Li encountered life-size terra-cotta figures and bronze weapons” (“Qin Shi Huangdi”, Highman). Having his tomb be found so much later proves how he accomplished his mission of having it be a secret and the tomb being invisible to the public, proving his power and strength throughout his empire. Having chosen this spot, and having it be in line with the ancient practices showed his caution towards the afterlife and death. Because of this, it helped the tomb advance by having him show extra caution into what was going in his tomb and how it was built, portraying the power he had in his empire. Very few primary source documents give life to the tomb of Qin Shi Huangdi. However, Shi Ji 6 by Sima Quian shows what it looked like to build the tomb, and the grave goods within it. In his book, he states that, “When Qin Shi Huangdi came to power, he started working on his tomb right away. In order to build this massive tomb, he requested 700,000 workers to help him” (Shi Ji 6, Sima Quian, Page 22). Having a primary source describing the tomb and the process of it being built helps support Shi Huangd’s power. He started building his tomb right away, and how he was able to gather 700,000 workers represents the authority that he had over his empire, which strengthens the power he had while ruling over
