In 240 B.C., the Romans truly experienced theatre with the performance of Etruscan histriones. Histriones was a term that was used to called actors/performers. During this time, they had only men performing. Sometimes having men playing as women. They performed the plays of Livius Androniucs. The histriones would performed several times a day. Plautus’s full name is Titus Maccius Plautus. He wrote some of the earliest Latin literary works. Some of his early work was Cistellaria(The Casket Comedy), Miles Gloriosus(The Swaggering Soldier), Stichus(200 BCE), and Pseudolus(191 BCE). Plautus was known for his comedy.Terence who wrote between 170 and 160 BC. Gaius Maecenas Melissus was a 1st century playwright of a comedy of manners. Seneca was also 1st century playwright but is famous for Roman adaptations of Greek plays like Medea and Phaedra. Ennius was the contemporary of Plautus who wrote comedies and tragedies. Lucius Accius was tragic poet and literary scholar.Pacuvius is Ennius’s nephew and tragic playwright. The architectural influence that Romans has come from the Greek.
