American Romanticism is a journey away from industrialism or rationalism which is working hard and earning money. Romanticism encouraged people to enjoy the integrity of nature and freedom of imagination. Romanticism encouraged one to have faith in imagination and inner experience, asking one to choose intuition over reasons. Romanticism also brought transcendentalism with it. Transcendentalism is an idealistic philosophical and social movement that developed in New England around 1836 in reaction to rationalism. It taught that divinity pervades all nature and humanity, and its members held progressive views on feminism and communal living. His first wife Ellen Tucker died due to Tuberculosis and second wife was Lydia Jackson and he had 4 children with her. He gave lectures that he later published in an essay form. ‘The American Scholar’ is based on a lecture that he gave in 1837, and it encouraged American authors to find their own style instead of imitating their foreign predecessors. Transcendentalism was not widely known until Emerson wrote essays questioning religion. His thinking of living in present and trust their own impulses helped American writers improve their writing by boosting their confidence. Due to the fact that he was a lecturer, he earned his nickname, ‘Concord Sage’ as he became the leading voice of Intellectual culture in U.S. He was a man full of freedom, determination and restless in search for unique understanding in life. He was a good friend and neighbor of Hawthorne. He was a great soul that enlightened people. He demonstrated romanticism through the use of his poetry, Brahma, Art, and the essay
