In the Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the events of the story change as the characters develop. Romeo and Juliet break many rules and go against many things they would not normally do. Romeo is impulsive and unreasonable when it comes to love. Love causes people to make many good and bad decisions, and this is shown excellently in the story of Romeo and Juliet. Romeo at the beginning of the story was looking for love and was extremely desperate. He was in love with Rosaline, but when he found out that she did not feel the same way, he was devastated. His depression quickly went away when he met Juliet and immediately fell in love and was willing to sacrifice anything for her. One example of this is when Romeo starts to make out with Juliet and says “O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do!” (Romeo 1.5.103). Romeo had just met her a couple hours before they did this and quickly fell in love with her. His impulsive decision to fall in love is not sincere at the beginning of the story. For all we know, he could have seen a prettier girl before he saw Juliet and things would have gone differently. After all this, Juliet was wondering why her “only love sprung from my only hate” (Romeo 1.5.138). This thought should have told her that being in love was a big mistake. This also leads to how fate was set in the beginning. At the beginning of the story Romeo says “Some consequence, yet hanging in the stars, shall bitterly begin his fearful date” (Romeo 1.4.107). In the story there are so many things that should have told Romeo and Juliet not to follow through with this love. But love blinded them so much that they ignored all of the signs of fate and simple common
