Civil Rights Movement was one of the most important Social Movements in the history of United States (Morris, 1986). Civil Rights movement was the struggle of African American against the racism which engulfed the firmament of American society in the latter half of the twentieth century. Although African Americans had fought in Civil war with the Whites due to which they were granted freedom and equal rights with the new amendments in the constitution, the whites in South were reluctant to give equal rights to the blacks (Dierenfield, 2008). Her action eventually acted as a catalyst in the long time movement to help abolish the segregation laws in the South, and the people who helped in bringing about the positive change became an icon of the civil rights movement in the United States. Their strong stand against this discriminatory behavior towards the African Americans made them not only a catalyst to the civil rights movement but also made them world renowned national heroes. Now, Randolph and his talented assistant Bayard Rustin considered a similar event in the hope to “embody in one movement the civil rights and economic and social demands of the entire nation.” The group of Big Six mentioned before was formed to organize the event. The date for the march was set for August 28, 1963 and the rallying point was the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. The “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom” turned out to be the largest political rally that the nation had ever known. Specially chartered buses and trains brought demonstrators from all over the United States.
