Rosa Louise McCauley Parks By: Dasia Lynn Smith Rosa Parks was a wonderful woman. Her birthday is February 4th 1913. Her hometown is Tuskegee, Alabama. She went to a blacks-only school. She was married. She was also an activist. Rosa had a few other jobs as well. This woman made a big difference in the world. She even met Dr. Martin Luther King Junior. She had many accomplishment. She refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man. Her arrest led to a Supreme Court decision that segregation on such forms of public transportation was illegal, thus sparking the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s. Parks and other black people faced this kind of segregation using black-only elevators, water fountains, schools, and other places. Rosa Parks was fined $14. She was soon arrested for violating segregation laws. She did not accept this situation. With help from civil rights lawyers, Rosa helped challenge laws about segregation. The incident sparked a 13 month boycott of busses in Montgomery by African Americans organized by Dr. Martin Luther King Junior and the Montgomery Improvement Association. The aftermath of this incident had a negative effect on Rosa’s immediate life. Parks lost her job, received threats, and was hassled. Her health was also negatively effected. Rosa and her husband left Alabama moved to Virginia, and later to Detroit, with her
