Roy Lichtenstein: Pop Art Roy Lichtenstein made an impact on the world with his unique take on pop art. In his works, we utilized the textures found commonly in comic books artwork in order to upscale and create his own works in a similar manner. What is remarkable about Roy's use of texture was his ability to create single dots in each of his paintings that were so even as to give an illusion of a fully colored piece. Roy's impact on the 60's era and beyond. Roy was born as "Roy Fox Lichtenstein" in New York City on October 27th 1923 to Milton and Beatrice Lichtenstein. His father was an accomplished developer of real estate, and the family lived comfortably in Manhattan's Upper West Side. Growing up, Roy had a passion for both comic books and science fiction, which surprisingly spurred him into the arts as a teenager. What also helped him get into the arts was his mother, Beatrice. After leaving his wife in 1963, he moved to Manhattan from New Jersey. In order to broaden his experiments and ventures in new art styles, he left his job at the Douglass college. During this time he began experimenting with subjects in oil paintings, industrial materials, “non art” materials, sculpture and creating mass-produced items that were far cheaper than that of a canvas piece for people to purchase. It was through designing products for everyday people to use, that he met his second wife, Dorothy.
