Throughout time authors have used inspiration from other writers, life experiences, and personal life moments. Shirley Jackson was a very unique author and used everything from her life to inspire her writing. Not only did her family impact her writing but also the events going on in her time, and the way humanity is. Shirley Jackson started off writing when she was young. She used events from her life to influence her writing and it paid off. She became one of the most respected writers of her time. People weren’t always of what she wrote due to the fact that it was always something strange. Even though Shirley Jackson wrote some bizarre stories, she used elements from her life and time period to influence her writing.
Shirley Jackson not only got support from her family, but was also inspired by them. Shirley Jackson met Stanley Edgar Hyman while she attended Syracuse University. The support from her family was important because she was able to use them to get her more well known. The time period was one of the most important things. It put her name on the map. After writing the lottery, she didn’t receive a great response right away. It took a while for the audience to appreciate a well written short story.
