The concept of sitio y lengua (space and discourse) has been profoundly influential to Chicana feminist cultural productions in a multitude of ways, including its intersectional approach, challenge of mainstream representation, and empowerment of Chicana women in and beyond their communities. By creating their own spaces for discourse, both physically and symbolically, Chicana women are able to better express themselves and their perspectives, ultimately promoting dialogue that encapsulates the intricacies of Chicana feminists’ identities. Lastly, sitio y lengua helped to reinforce the empowerment of Chicana women within the Chicano/a culture. Cultural productions influenced by the Chicana feminist movement typically pull inspiration from cultural traditions and histories to share the reality of Chicana womens’ lives and perspectives. In doing so, they are enriching Chicano/a culture and celebrating their heritage while continuing to challenge oppressive stereotypes.
