Skoll was born January 1965 in the french-Canadian wonderland Montreal. During his teen years he and his family moved to Toronto. His father owned a industrial chemical company so he grew up around businessmen. Unfortunately his father was diagnosed with kidney cancer; a quote from Skoll "I remember my dad saying that he wasn't so sad that he might die, but he was sad that he'd never done the things that he'd wanted to do in life," Skoll wanted to become a writer. But with a mind of a businessman he realized that if he was to become a writer he would need to earn enough money to live comfortably before he pursued his career. After he moved to L.A. he spent time as a writer for his school. He began to write about the difference between rich and poor in the word. He was noticed by Pierrer Omidyar who then hired Skoll to write a business plan. It was for a company called Ebay. “This all came out of Skolls mind a company so huge”. Pierrer said "First he told me it was a stupid idea," “then he agreed to come on board” thus starting the plan to get the company off its feet. Ebay started as a backyard company. Just a few guys sitting and doing computer work trying to hit the big bucks. He and his partners in ebay awaited for it to blow up. What felt like an eternity of waiting, he finally got the call. Once Ebay got big, Skoll had no clue what to do with his money. Even though now a billionaire he still lived in his small home and drove the same car. So he decided to giving to charity.
