How Did Socrates Contribute To Western Civilization

The Ancient Greece culture has made many contributions to western civilization today. The ancient Greeks affected our arts, government, sports, and philosophies of the modern era. One of the many people to influence us is the Greek philosopher Socrates he is known worldwide for his contribution to western society because he is credited with laying the fundamentals of modern Western philosophy. One of the many things in philosophy he is known for creating Socratic irony and the Socratic method. His famous statement “The unexamined life is not worth living” is one of the base studies in philosophy. This quote is used to encourage learning and studying the things that we don’t know or haven’t discovered yet. The ancient Greek government had the first known democratic government to date, which that is like our today, but we are better known as a democratic republic. These are both founded on the fact that one person does not rule the government and the rich are not in charge with everyone having a voice in the law making. This can be seen by the creation of the Parthenon, which was primary built more for its look of then function it also symbolized to everyone that they are a thriving civilization with the intent of glorifying Athens. I believe this can be traced to what we know today as the white house or even the capital building because we can see the simple use of columns, capped and crowned in diversely Greek ways, has traditionally been used for private residences and major public buildings in American society, among others just to show of the dominance nature of how big the building is with its impressive architecture.
