Ethan Register Earth/ Space Science 1 Honors 3-18-18 The mysteries of space have always existed, from hundreds of years ago to recently spiking in the last century. In October 1957, Sputnik 1 was released to go into orbit as a satellite. This would influence and boost the space program that would ultimately change the world entirely and how we view it, for the good and the bad. The Moonport Film is a video recording the first manned flight into space which made a huge impact of Florida, the agriculture, technology, anything and everything was affected. The film showed little about Florida’s growth but you could tell not many people were at the site of the first launch, it took time for more and more people to come. NASA was formed in July …show more content…
One of the biggest impacts it had was agriculture, when the U.S. said they were going to launch a rocket and that it was going to launch in Florida then visitors came from every state. The population boomed and they had to make more room for more people causing them to have to cut trees and reduce agricultural life further south. The launch evolved Florida drastically by bringing more people in, its economy skyrocketed and everything started to cost more and more people wanted to live near cape canaveral. In the page “1950 Census Of Population (Page 1)”, “The population of Florida as of April 1, 1950, was 2,735,413”. As in the page “Census 2000 Data for the State of Florida (Page 1)”, “The population of Florida on April 1, 2000 was 15,982,378”. So when the rocket was launched millions of people came, in just 50 years the population grew almost 8 times the size it originally was. This caused damage to the ecosystem but produced more products such as things like Velcro from the missions, it changed Florida permanently. When making The “Moonport Film”, I believe that the film makers wanted to develop Florida more by bringing in more people with the interesting film. The makers of the film were …show more content…
The film was not only for Florida but for the U.S. by bringing everyone from civilians to entire companies down south. As stated on the website “Economic Development Commission Florida’s Space Coast (Page 1)”, “The Space Coast boasts the largest share of science, technology, engineering and math-related jobs in Florida, according to a 2013 Brookings Institute report”. They wanted to improve Florida and make it well known and popular for the future. The life in Florida wasn’t the same after the launch as it was before. Life in Florida in the 60’s was not fast. It had almost 3 million people while other states had roughly about 3.6 - 4 million each. There wasn’t anything known for Florida except oranges and the beach except when the space shuttle was launched everything changed. As figured in “Population and Housing Unit Estimates”, “Florida’s population was 5 million in 1960”. Then as figured in “Population and Housing Unit Estimates”, “Florida’s population was 6.8 million in 1970”. Life in Florida picked up very fast, new products and companies were built along with thousands of people that moved here within just the first couple years. More and more
