Steven Paul Jobs truly was one of the greatest entrepreneurs in history, and his devotion to perfection shaped him into the epitome of the American Dream. This perfectionist attitude Jobs possessed led him to greatness, and resulted in spectacular products ranging from the Macintosh to the iPhone. Throughout the course of his life, Steve Jobs was obsessed with the impeccable; he always expected every product associated with his name to be “insanely great” (Isaacson 110). Early in his career at Apple, while developing the Apple II, Jobs “spent days agonizing over just how rounded the corners [of the computer] should be” (83). Most would think that Jobs would have been satisfied with launching such a profitable product, but his “passion for the product, [and his] passion for product perfection” made him pursue an even bigger hit: the Macintosh (83). Throughout his time working on the Macintosh, Jobs spent days, weeks even, attempting to remove every single design flaw from the computer. During the early stages of development, Jobs scrapped the design of the computer several times, each time exclaiming that he has thought of a new, better, and more efficient way of creating the product. At one point in time, while Bill Atkinson, an early Apple employee, and Susan Kare, a friend of Andy Hertzfeld, were working on the title bars atop windows and documents, Jobs entered and explained how he wanted the title bars on the Mac to be smooth. As Kare recalled, “‘We must have gone through twenty different title bar designs before he was happy’” (131).
