The first week The Beatles came to America, they made such an impact on the musical world that it’s been said the week of February 9th, 1964 was the week they became the leading musical icons of the 20th century. That week, they performed on the Ed Sullivan Show and two days later, on February 11, 1964, the Beatles played their first “real” American concert at Washington D.C in the Washington Coliseum. Before every original song, they introduced the title and told a small backstory to give the audience an understanding of the song (even though the audience was already well versed in all their songs); and after almost every song, they bowed, which helped to show their personality and sense of humor.
