CIA Operations/Projects Lucy Kraehling From 1940-1970 there were quite a few sketchy CIA operations and projects. This paper will go over some of the most interesting, and sometimes illegal, operations done by the CIA. Disclaimer: There is some mature material in this paper, such as suicide, death, sexual content, mind control, inhumane human experimentation, drugs and other illegal activity. Operation Artichoke, first known as Operation Bluebird, was an experiment on interrogation tactics. The study consisted of using hypnosis, forced morphine addiction, and forced morphine withdrawal on the subjects to make them more susceptible to interrogation. Kennedy, even though the Joint Chiefs of Staff tried to get it approved, Kennedy rejected it. (“U.S. Military Wanted to Provoke War With Cuba”) In 1953, near the end of the Korean war, The New York Times published an article that explained that the military personnel returning from that country were brainwashed by communist parties. The reason Project MK-ULTRA was approved was because people in the US feared that people coming back from Soviet countries were changed and brainwashed, so Allen Dulles wanted to learn for himself. He did mind control experiments that consisted of: Electro-shock therapy, hypnosis, polygraphs, radiation, drugs, toxins, and chemical treatment. The test subjects, some freely volunteered, others were coerced, and some had no idea that they were participating in a mind control experiment. Some of the people that were included in the experiment were American soldiers, mentally-impaired boys, at public schools, “sexual psychopaths” at state hospitals, and “other vulnerable members of society”. This research paper covered some of the many projects and operations by the CIA that were known as some of the most interesting, and even illegal operations. Many of these remember, were in 1950-1970, there are not many CIA operations like this that were recorded in the last 20 years. In addition, there were many more operations during that time that were very helpful to our nation.
