The Civil War lasted for four years and it affected many lives. All types of people were impacted by the war. Many were children, leaders, African Americans, women, medical staff, and soldiers. Each person who was affected was never the same again. The Civil War didn’t just affect people physically but it also did emotionally and mentally. They had to live through a real struggle and many died fighting in the Civil War. Women were affected greatly during the Civil War. Most women stayed at home and took on the responsibility of supporting their families. They had to take on their husband’s jobs while still doing theirs, and looking after the children. To provide for their families they worked in the factories and on the farms. This caused many women to be overworked and many died of starvation and exhaustion. Over 600 women dressed up as soldiers and many died alongside their husbands, leaving their children alone. Other women joined as spies or medical staff. Women weren’t safe …show more content…

African Americans joined the Union Army to help fight for freedom. Even though they fought for the Union they were treated differently than the white soldiers. They had lower pay and received less training. With lower pay they had barely anything to support themselves with. With lower training than whites, African Americans got hurt or shot more often. They also had second rate clothing and guns. This didn’t help them survive. African Americans had a higher chance to die over anybody else fighting in the war. Every person, no matter what group, was affected by the Civil War. They all had to work hard to survive. It brought out their good qualities and their bad qualities. We should be very grateful to have all these different groups in our world. Even though the Civil War killed many it is what brought us together as a country. We wouldn’t be where we are today without these groups and
