The American Civil War was a battle in the United States between the Union and the Confederacy (also called the North and the South). The outcome of the Civil War had a major impact on society today, but it also gave African Americans more rights and a better look at society. This was one of the major outcomes of the Civil War. The tensions leading to the Civil War began to rise when the Union and the Confederacy were formed. According to History.com, “By 1860, Southern politics was dominated by the idea of states’ rights in the context of slavery to support the South’s agricultural economy, and slave-heavy, cotton-producing agricultural states embraced secession as the solution” (History.com, 2009).
