In the article The Founding Sachems Mr. Mann gave reasons why the United States constitution was influenced by the Iroquois Indians. I disagree with him because the constitution was influenced by many people not just the indians. There has been some conflicts between settlers and indians in the past. If there were problems between the two why would they let the constitution be influenced by them? The first settlers came to America because they wanted to get away from the government back in Eruope. They had to fight of the indians to take land for themselves. They even used some indians as slaves. Indians and settlers didn't always get along, but settlers did learn a lot of things from them, but I don't believe how to run a country was one of them. …show more content…
In the article Roger Williams stated “the Indian sachems on the eastern seaboard were absolute monarchy.” The eastern seaboard would be where the colonies were, so those indians wouldn’t be an influence on them. It also stated that not every European admired the democratic spirit of the indians.2 Mr. Mann even said the Iroquois’ constitution influenced our constitution, then later stated it wasn’t at all like the first constitution of the U.S.2 The constitution was influenced by many philosophers that believed in freedom and liberty. Not only was the constitution influenced by philosophers but, the magna Carta and English Bill of Rights. Those are my reasons why I don't believe the the United States constitution was influenced by the Iroquois Indians. The Indians had different ways of doing things, and the colonist didn't always see it the Indians way. The Constitution was influenced by much more than the
