Roman Empire Paper One factor that helped the economy grow in Europe was it’s agriculture. Most economies before the nineteenth century also relied on agriculture to help it grow. Even though these take some time, it still played a huge roll in the growing of the economy. Producing new amounts of food helped feed Europe. Also, the new tools invited to help with farming and growing also was a huge factor in the economy growing. New technology is what made it possible for the agriculture to grow. This in turn helped the economy over Europe to grow. Tools like the heavy-wheeled plow, harnesses for farm animals, and wheelbarrow made it easier for farmers to work. Agriculture allowed these people to control others because they depended on these farmers. How would you get food if these farmers didn’t want to sell you anything? This is how manors were created. These manors were created to shared and were created by a local lord or monastery. This allowed the lords to take larger shares from the peasants who worked on these farms. These lords had power over these peasants and were basically paying for them to do their work. This also lead to controlling and exploiting these peasants for their own gain. Not all political power is for the better and this shows how lords and higher ups could take advantage of people. After a while these peasants became serfs, who were basically slaves. They were not allowed to leave the farm, but they couldn’t be sold either. New technologies also linked political power and the economy. These new inventions helped produce more products on farms and manors. This in turn helped the lords and monasteries gain more money from these peasants.
