The electric motor created a huge impact on society. It was the first way to make mechanical energy out of electricity. Electric motors were and still are used across the planet. Many processes led up to the invention of the electric motor. It required a lot of people and time to perfect it. The electric motor made converting electric power to mechanical power possible for people to do. There were many people and processes that led up to the invention of the electric motor. Though a lot of people helped lead up to the first motor, there were three major discoveries that helped make the first motor. The three discoveries were found by three different people. Those three people were William Sturgeon, Thomas Davenport, and Michael Faraday. Though …show more content…
He worked as a blacksmith. He created one of the first models of an electric motor with someone named Orange Smalley. After splitting off with Orange, he found a new partner, named Ransom Cook. Mr. Davenport and Mr. Cook worked on making the motor better. The new motor could take up to 300 watts of energy. Thomas Davenport did not make many inventions, but his model of the electric motor was crucial to the invention of them (Doppelbauer 6-7) Second, Michael Faraday was born in England. He worked as a scientist. Michael Faraday discovered electromagnetic induction. Electromagnetic induction is the generation of an electric current from an electric field. Michael Faraday did not make many discoveries for the electric motor, but the electric motor would not work without electromagnetic induction (Doppelbauer 3). Also, William Sturgeon was born in England. He worked as a physicist. William Sturgeon discovered electromagnets. Electromagnets spun the coil of the electric motor and gave off electricity. Six years later, he built a motor that was efficient. Even though he only discovered a few factors that helped out the invention of electric motors, his few inventions were key discoveries (Doppelbauer
