The enlightenment was a period of much intellectual and social growth. The way the people looked at the world changed. The people started to believe that all men were equal and free. The Declaration of the Rights of Man states “ men are born and remain free and equal in rights.” During the time period people had previously not thought of every person being equal. Everyone started to search around the world around them and created new ideas and inventions. People began to believe that one 's actions should be for the common good for other people. Meanwhile, the beginning in 1650, Great Britain started to control and moderate the colonists in America by forcing them to attach to the Navigation Acts.
