In chapter 21, America was influenced by World War I from 1913 to 1917. At this time, America struggled with Latin America such as Dominican Republic, Mexico, even though Wilson would handle some problems well during the his presidency. After The Great War broke out in Europe, America didn’t care about Europe. However, America just stood in neutrality based on Wilson’s announcement, and they supported some countries which were not The Triple Alliance through finances and some resources that would help in the war. At this time, Europe was separated by two organizations. The one was called The Triple Entente which contained Britain, France, and Russia. As soon as America declared the war, various changes happened in the United States. Especially in economy, The War Industries were expanded that helped the growth of economy and increased food, fuel production, and transportation. Through The National War Labor Board, all workers could work for eight-hour, and workplace was better than before, so that women could get more opportunities to work than before. During the world affair, there was The Great Migration from south to north because of lynching and economic disasters. As the result of the Great Migration, there also were some racial conflicts between African American and Whites. In May 1917, congress passed Selective Service Act to collect more men for a war. Through this process, African Americans were also drafted into segregated army, but women were not drafted. At the end of the war, eventually, the Triple Entente won against the Triple Alliance, and Wilson said about Fourteen Points, which talked about peace and a League of Nations. Other major allies also accepted his Fourteen Points, but his Fourteen Points did not quite satisfy allies.
