The National Assembly of France approved the Declaration of the Rights of Man, made up of 17 articles, in 1789. It is a document that involves human liberties and rights that in part inspired the French Revolution. The main principle of the Declaration is that all “men are born and remain free and equal in rights.” The framers of the Declaration of the Rights of Man were greatly influenced by the American Declaration of Independence and the Enlightenment. The approval of this declaration led to the French revolution that started in 1789 and ended in 1799. The French Revolution was a period that drastically changed France, it got rid of the powerful monarchies and there was the rise of nationalism and democracy. The National Assembly of France functioned as a body to draft a new constitution. So in a way, the Declaration of the Rights of Man led to the first constitution in France, the French Constitution of 1791, which was also inspired by the American …show more content…

The National Assembly reorganized the whole French society. They abolished the privileges of the nobles and of the clergy, the legal jurisdiction of the nobleman of France, and the privileges that the provinces and towns had. In its place, France was now composed of all equal citizens, unlike before. The French Revolution had several important causes within it; one cause was the attack by the men of the Enlightenment that undermined the government and led to demands for change. Another involved the conflicts between the monarchy and the nobility over constitutional issues because France was ruled by a monarchy at that time. The last was the conflict between the nobles and the peasants, which led to demands for restrictions on the privileges of the nobles.
