Greek Influences The study of the humanities, or the study of human culture, developed due to several interconnected sources. Religion, science, and literature all had a part to play. The humanities look at the times all the way backs to the Greeks and are still relevant today in the 21st century. Without the combination of several forces, the humanities may have never existed in the first place. The Greeks had many gods, numbering over a hundred in total. Each of their gods served a different purpose in the grand scheme of life. There were gods and goddesses for war, love, harvest, and more. The Greeks chose to give sacrificial offerings in order to keep the gods happy, fearing their wrath that could come in the form of a storm or an epidemic. As the early philosophers, these people looked for and eagerly sought out wisdom. However, the ancients initially were very fond of their religious stories, the concepts of gods, and simply believing that everything in the world is a result of a higher being or beings. The major turning point of this mindset was set into motion by the new concept at the time of science and the pursuit of the answer to the question regarding what the nature of wisdom is and where it stemmed from by several great minds of that time. By trying to figure out what wisdom is along with the foundation and how it can obtain allowed for the rise of philosophy. Philosophy coupled with science allowed new types of thoughts and ideas along with information that strayed from the path of the gods to come to light. Without this shift away from the gods made by ancient philosophers and scientists, the humanities would be unable to study the fundamental basics of this world and what it is made out
