The Hundred Year’s War that played a big part during The Middle Ages. This war lasted from 1337 to 1453 by the House of Plantagenet. The cause of The Hundred Year’s War was mostly because of a fight for the French throne between the kings of France and England. In the end, the French won as they took the last of England’s possessions.
The Hundred Year’s War impacted the society in a way. Some soldiers, mercenaries and knights were unemployed because of advancements in weaponry. Knights usually would yield weapons such as the sword, which wasn’t useful during the war. There was lots of religious controversy regarding whether the pope should quit. This started when the French king invited Pope Gregory IV to France. After the movement of Pope Gregory IV, Rome was forced to elect Pope Urban VI. In the end, all three of the popes were removed and Pope Martin V became the only pope. Overall, the multiple popes played a religious factor during The Hundred Years’ War. For the most part, the election of multiple popes caused a confliction, but was solved once they removed all the popes and elected Pope Martin V.
Furthermore, economy also played a part of The Hundred Years’ War. Both England and France paid funds for the hundred years of war. Because of all the funds required, peasants were required to pay taxes, which they eventually revolted against. All in all, both countries taxed their people to partake in the war.
The Hundred Years’ War caused some long-term effects on the world. Many people were killed by the war and the black plague as well.
