The Inca Empire, flourishing from 1438 to 1533 was the largest and the most advanced empire in South America and the largest in the world during that time. The empire conquered land all the way from southern Columbia to central Chile during its powerful zoetic. The Inca Empire was highly advanced during the post classical period because of the many discoveries and developments in agriculture, mathematics, science, architecture, and how they used ancestral worship as a way to gain land. In addition to all this they accumulated a huge amount of wealth which ultimately led to their demise in 1532.

Liesl Clark explains “Even with our advanced mountaineering clothing and equipment of today, it is hard for us to acclimatize…and dehydration experienced at the high altitudes frequented by the Inca.” The people moving these rocks had to battle unpredictable weather, carry drinking water, and battle with the higher atmospheric pressures. The Incas used the bridges to cross waterways or large chasms. “Some of these bridges were cables hung from masonry towers for support. Other bridges were made of wood, stone, and floating reeds.” The bridges were unique in that they displayed the wide range of advanced Incan architecture. They could build rope bridges if they needed to cross something high up. They could also build masonry towers to support the bridge across far distances. If they just needed to cross a stream they could lay a stone path. They could also repair the bridges which was crucial because people used them every
