When learning about the Industrial Revolution, it’s important to learn about what it had done for America and how it impacted the people who were living it. This period of time is known for its urbanization as people quickly moved to big cities to find work. Factories advanced and people were forced to live lives full of pain and suffering but it was all done for one thing, and that was to one day be rich. Although the poor stayed poor and the rich kept getting richer, Americans worked to death to make their mark in the Industrial Revolution. The creation of the Steam engine, which was used in boats, railways, factory machines, on farms, and in road vehicles, was said to be the moving force behind our Industrial Revolution. The steam engine made not only travel, but factory work quicker and more efficient. This more efficient work also reduced the amount of jobs needed in factories so the introduction of the steam engine caused job loss and dangerous working conditions. It also sparked the creation of the transcontinental railway which connected the east and west coasts. The railway moved people and goods quicker across the United States, as well as making it much cheaper to move from the east to the west in all. The railway opened settlement on the west coast and provided support for the industrial revolution, providing goods that were harder to get before the railway was created. Also created was the spinning jenny, and although not as significant, it was a key development of the revolution. It sped up the process of making yarn but also took jobs from people.
