The civil war was fought with more than just muskets and rifles. It was fought with multiple weapons, even some we use today. New weapons were made during the civil war and changed how the war was fought. The Weapons of the civil were varied, and were developed by a lot of different people and changed how the war was fought.

One type of gun that was used in the civil war was the musket. It was invented by a Frenchman named Marin le Bourgeoys The musket is a long barreled single shot weapons that was usually shot from the shoulder. The firing range of a musket is about 250 yards. It fired pure round lead balls which was the second most common bullet that was used in the civil war. If a soldier had a muscled they would be designed as a musketeer. Matthew Fontaine invented the use of torpedoes.The confederate had more success than the union. The confederates destroyed dozens of Union ships and damaged several others. The union only sunk six confederate ships. The confederates were masters under the water. The south made the James river impossible to cross. A cannon was a large heavy long barrel that was made of metal. It was packed with a large amount of gunpowder and a ball with a fuse hanging out to ignite. Most cannons of the era fell into one of two categories, either howitzers or guns.There were a lot of different types of cannons during the civil war, for example the 6-pounder Gun, M1857 12-pounder "Napoleon", 12-pounder Howitzer, and 24-pounder Howitzer. Cannons during the civil war became a lot more portable, which is crucial in a battle.
