What is the Opium War? How did this affect the British and China? The Opium War occurred between Great Britain and China (Qing Dynasty). China was consuming British Gold and Silver but didn’t want to pay back to the British so the British used a byproduct grown in India called Opium to sell to China for their expenses. This caused the Qing citizens to become addicted to Opium and the Chinese government banned Opium from the country. Chinese troops began to shoot down British ships to stop the product of opium from entering China. This later caused the Opium War between China and Great Britain. The Similarity between these two is that they bought a product/company to sell drugs to one another. The drug they used was highly addicting and people couldn’t get enough of the substance.

How did OxyContin change Society today? This changed today’s society because the Sackler Family wanted people to get this product addicting and the Sackler Family overthought this process that they would invest huge amounts of money. The Sackler Family wanted something addicting for people to buy so they would buy it more so the Sackler Family can earn huge amounts of money.
How did the downfall of the Opium War affect society? The Opium War led to China losing Land, Cities, and good products. China lost the Qing Dynasty due to low to no power after the War. People were so addicted to Opium which they only had to pay back with Gold and Silver that China had produced for their economy. China was forced to concede its territorial and sovereignty rights. After the Opium War, the West turned China’s trade policy on its head, abolished China’s legal framework, and made other changes of broad scope.
