How did the Peloponnesian War affect their lives? Rileigh Amos South Western Illinois College World Civilization 101-IN1 [SU24] Professor Webb July 15, 2024. In many circumstances, wars lead to both great success and tragedies and this war was no different. This war was fought between the two leading cities of Greece, Athens and Sparta ( Tikkanen ). Athens was a democratic nation that wanted to have control over the other nations and have control over ancient Greece ( Onion ). Although Sparta did not like this because they were raised from a young age to be the biggest and strongest soldiers so that they could protect their nation from invasions so that they could stay in power. Throughout the war the main source of materials used in the war consisted of fir and spruce wood for bases of the weaponry. This was because there was an abundance of these trees as they were native to the area. They would also use only naturally occurring materials to build their homes and structures. Things such as marble, stone, mud, fir trees, and spruce trees. They used these to help it withstand longer periods of time. Over time they developed what they called Roman concrete, this was made out of the stone and water and other naturally occurring elements. This is a very big stride in technology in the future. This helps build the inside of structures and make them more structurally sound. As well as making larger structures because it was easier and quicker to use because of how fast it dried. The Peloponnesian War was a very big step forward in technology and the political system and how the world is viewed now. As well as where territories remain after the war. Without the Peloponnesian War Rome could never have taken over or gained the knowledge of a democratic form of government. They also implemented the confidence of war and how to fight for themselves and what they believed was right. But also the Athenians and how they are prepared to stick together and how to apply the technology they invented to protect themselves. They also applied the ability to have piece in their community by implementing the democracy in their community, allowing everyone to play apart in what happened. With all these things combined, if Athens stayed in power they would’ve had great success if they had more man power. The war itself, although it made much progress towards the future, also made it take a step backward with the amount of casualties lost on both sides. However, this loss also allowed the steps forward into bringing the Roman and Greek empires to be in control over the Eastern Mediterranean areas. By the casualties that were sacrificed in the polonessian war it allowed the evolution of the roman and greece empires and help them to continue striving and making them grow into a better empire in itself.
