Robespierre led the French Revolution known as “The Reign of Terror”. The new government would execute large numbers of individuals whom they believed to be enemies of the revolution. So, the Reign of Terror was unjustified, for it not only violated the Declaration of Rights of Man and Citizen in multiple cases, specifically articles two and ten, but also caused the death of thousands. Although the Committee of Public Safety had good intentions, it ended up doing more harm than good as they invaded people’s lives and disregarded their rights as human beings.
He set out to get rid of every trace of France’s past. His rule became known as the Reign of Terror, his job was to protect France from its enemies along with his committee they did an efficient job at this but it was extremely brutal and merciless. Eventually Robespierre got out of hand and fearing for their own lives the people of France decided to execute him. Throughout Napoleon Bonaparte’s rule majority of his actions represented the ideals of the French Revolution and the Enlightenment.
The French Revolution was successful because it did more good than bad. It changed the tax code and allowed more rights for the Three Estates, abolished feudalism, and redistributed the land from the Church to the state. Although the Revolution addressed some of the pre-revolutionary problems. Others say it was unsuccessful because it created more problems. Such as the Reign of Terror, the Napoleonic Empire, and the restoration of monarchy.

But the people were not fit to bring about these new ideas and uphold the important roles of the government. The country soon reeked of havoc and dissention and after many regimes tried their hand at power the country got worse, but to the country’s rescue was the heroic Napoleon. When Napoleon took over, he made great changes to the government and economy of the country of France. In the government, Napoleon did not always act with such tyranny; some of his decisions were made for the good of the people. For example, he filled electoral colleges which brought about some amazing changes for France (Kennedy 376-377).
Napoleon did many things for France. Including bring the churches back and letting people practice their own religion again. Which most people did not do back then because if someone supported their religion more than the leader then the leader would not have complete control over them. They can not do anything to them cause the worst thing that could happen is that they die and go to heaven. Also he he opened up schools in France that was free for the boys even if they was poor, even if it was not for the girls to attend to, but that was common back then.
Napoleon rooted out corruption, the downside of this France was always at war. Napoleon fought for land and France never stopped warring he wanted to take over Brittan, but it was just out of reach for him. That meant that the judge could not change anything, but the laws applied to all citizens equally and protected their rights. He gave people religious tolerance, which means people had religious freedom. He also created a system of meritocracy, giving positions based on people's talents and not to the ones that are higher classes.
