The Renaissance had long lasting impacts on the world. During the Medieval time period, the people were mostly farmers due to the lack of variety in jobs. The Medieval time worldview was limited to their small farm and what they saw in front of them. The people were illiterate, uneducated, and only gained their information from one source, the Roman Catholic Church. As time went on, new and more efficient farming methods were introduced allowing fewer people to farm. One family could farm for a whole village, permitting the rest of the village to get different jobs. Leonardo’s Mona Lisa was very complex, especially her lips. In order for Leonardo to get her lips to be so realistic, he dissected and studied the nerves and movements of the human mouth. Leonardo was not only able to create a unique smile, but was also able to make the lips realistic. Leonardo’s painting represents the Renaissance because he adds realism to the painting that people would see in their daily life. Leonardo also incorporated bright colors and a vivid background. During the Renaissance, artists veered away from using dull colors and used brighter colors to make it more realistic and lively. Artists also used three dimensional art instead of two dimensional art. The mountains in the background of the Mona Lisa add depth to the painting making it three dimensional and it to seem more realistic. Unlike Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Duccio Di Bouninsegna’s painting is two dimensional and therefore looks unrealistic, because Duccio did not add individual characteristics to the subject of the painting.
