The rise and expansion of Islam began in the seventh century. But before the rise it was pretty clear that political, “cultural, and religious currents of the near East, Egypt, and East Africa had long left their mark on Arabian Society” (Edgar, 181). There was a trade of colonies happening around this time, and because of this there was a development of a new religious traditions. There were different forms of Christian teachings that had spread into the interior of the Arabian Peninsula. Muhammad, an orphan from the merchant class of Mecca. “This was a holy book containing Allah's sacred revelations to Muhammad; Islamic text revealed by Allah to the prophet Muhammad during his life at Mecca and Medina; stressed the moral and ethical dimensions of marriage” (Edgar, 187). And if that wasn’t enough, there were five pillars. These were principles that must be accepted and followed by all believers. These included 1) believe in Allah one true God; 2) must give to the poor. 3) Fasting from sunup to sundown during Ramadan. 4) Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in lifetime. 5) Must pray five times a day facing the Kaaba in Mecca. The reason that Islam expended so fast is because it it based on practicing good morals. Islam also honors human free will. They let you think what you want and do want you want, if it inside the good morals. There is no such thing as discrimination, everyone is equal and is treated the same. Royalty, civilian, man, woman, dog, cat, we are all equal. I also believe that the Prophet Muhammad was an awesome human role model. He not only talked the talk, he also walked the walk.
