In April 25, 1846, the U.S. went to war with Mexico over the U.S. annexation of Texas. Later in the war, it was revealed that America’s true intensions were to expand slavery and to claim western territory. This skirmish between the U.S. and Mexico became known as the Mexican-American War. The Mexican-American War was fought from the April 25, 1846 to February 2,1848 and took place on disputed land, in what’s current day Texas. This yearlong combat resulted in Mexico losing and even more importantly, the loss of half of Mexico’s national territory in the north.
America’s entrance in the Spanish-American War was primarily due to the random explosion of the USS Maine on February 15, 1898, which killed 267 service men aboard. This attack leads to Congress’s vote to go to war against Spain. The United States’ desire to expand military overseas also played a part in the American entrance to this war. Economically speaking, the U.S. wanted Cuban crops to come to America, and not only Spain. “The war enabled the United States to establish its predominance in the Caribbean region and to pursue its strategic and economic interests in Asia” (“Spanish-American War”).

The canal was set to be built in Panama, this canal was to benefit America to create ports free from tax in this country. This was granted when the Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty of 1903 gave rights over a 51 mile long and 10 mile wide Canal Zone to protect the U.S. With these rights American manufacturing exporting companies without any tariffs for the citizens of the States.

According to the website " ThoughtCo " it states, “ The war was disastrous for Mexico, as it was forced to sign away nearly half of its national territory, including California, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, and parts of several other current US states.¨ This was a Benefit for the Americans because they had more territory and land, but on the other hand Mexico had lost most of their land and had to find a new place to rebuild their culture.
