Introduction: Would you like it if the Spanish empire killed over 20 million people in the society you lived in? Good Morning members of the History and Culture Youth Forum, my name is Ruby Magill, and I am here to advise you on the negative impacts the Spanish Empire had on the Aztecs. What the Spanish Empire did was devastating and it had extreme negative impacts on the Aztec society. The Spanish Empire brought over many diseases to the Aztecs, which wiped out a lot of their population. The Aztecs were forced to embrace foreign religions and practices such as Christianity, they were banned from practicing their own religions.

Body Paragraph 1: It is very important to acknowledge the negative impacts the Spanish Empire caused towards the Aztecs, like how they introduced many diseases which depopulated the Aztec civilisation. Before the Spanish arrived in 1521, the population of Tenochtitlan was around 200,000 Aztecs living there. When the Spanish arrived, they introduced many new diseases like smallpox and the measles.

The Aztecs had a complex and polytheistic religious system, they believed in many different Gods. One of their religious practices was doing human sacrifices, this was one of their main practices to please their Gods. The Aztecs did these practices because they believed the Gods would let the sun rise and their crops grow. When the Spanish arrived Hernan Cortes defeated the Aztecs and forced them to convert religions to Christianity. The Spanish destroyed idols and temples. According to Brainly, Cortes and his troops, who led the conquest of the Aztec kingdom, had the unfortunate situation of defeating the Aztecs.
