The U.S used American exceptionalism to justify Native American removal by trying to trick Natives into believing they can be “helpful” to each other and by using power that they knew the natives didn’t have. In source C it states, “listened to our professions of friendship; we called him brother, and he believed us.” This shows the trickery used by Americans towards the Natives, causing them to be forced out of land. According to “Blankets for the Dead” reading it states “ For more than a century, the Cherokees had watched first the colonies and then the United States chip away at their tribal territory. In treaty after treaty, they exchanged one more piece of land for one more promise of respect and coexistence.” This shows the trickery used by Americans towards the Natives, causing them to be forced out of land. Telling us how Americans agreed to be helpful towards Natives, just to later go on and betray them. Americans caused Natives to leave their lands based on broken promises just to get betrayed in the end.
