Alex Kuperstein U.S. History The Early American Republic Portfolio The United States changed in so many different ways from 1776 to 1870. This change started off with a population increase because of the immigration enslaves. Changes in transportation were also changing during this time period.
In Chapter 14, the nineteenth century is seen as a time of “movement.” During this time period of 1790-1860, one witnesses great western development as well an tremendous increase in immigration from Europe. Population booms causing new social organizations to be founded as immigrants enter the workforce in which factory work becomes much more tires. By starting his article with, "If ever there were a newspaper headline custom-made for Jay Leno this was it. Kids taking McDonald's this week, suing the company for making them fat.", gives consumers the opportunity to make their own conclusion based on the topic. This was also
The authors discuss branding and why it is important for news netrworks and political outrage personalities. Branding is important because it creates a trust based relationship with the « average » viewer. This idea of the « average viewer » is critical because it represents the majority of white male correspondants who dominate the industry. There is an underlying belief that these white males represent the majority and speak on issues that matter the most to those chosen group of people. These men, speak on issues that most people of this group are afraid to talk about in public, due to the fear of being labeled as ultra-conservative, racist, sexist, etc.

As America matured during the 1800’s it had some help from the dramatic evolution in transportation. The railroad system was improved dramatically, for example, the transcontinental railroad. Before the transcontinental railroad, traveling coast to coast took so long but the railroad gave people fast transportation from coast to coast. According to GTG Technology Group “Before the railroad, it took almost six months and cost $1000 to travel between California and New York. After the transcontinental railroad was completed, it cost $150 and took one week.”
Reinvention is evidenced as an American characteristic between the 16th and 19th centuries due to advancements and changes in religion, agriculture, inventions, and transportation systems. The time between the 16th and 19th centuries was a time of discovery and progression that really shaped America as a whole. Christianity started to establish itself as one of the main religions of the colonies when European settlers first arrived and started attempting to convert Native Americans. Colonists figured out the concept of agriculture in different areas based on soil type and climates. The religion of Christianity, specifically Catholicism, was new to the Native Americans who were already living in America.
Society is always changing, from the 1800’s to now there have been many changes, big and small. Anything from simple linguistics, up to the ways criminals are dealt with have changed, some in good ways and some not so good. But overall, society has taken a turn towards the good end of the spectrum. In reading the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, I had gotten an insight of how the world worked in the 1800’s. Seeing how things like racism, laws/justice, and language have progressed over time is unbelievable.
Journalism today has much more appeal to emotions; it's not longer just the facts, and propaganda is used much more frequently in today's
America has gone through a lot as a country. Without its past, it wouldn’t be what it is today. The main point of learning our history is to be knowledgeable of what has constructed our present, such as America’s wars, segregation, slavery, and everything that has molded the United States of America into the country that it is today. Our founding fathers took great care in giving us a Constitution, to make sure we all have equal rights and responsibilities. History has molded our present and determined our future as a country.
From the beginning USA Today set out to be different than their competitors by not following the then normal way of how a newspaper should look and what it should entail. The paper did not include long stories, but short synopsis, easy to find sections, and colors and graphs (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). They catered to the working class who did not have a lot of time to read an entire paper or search and look for a particular article or section. Due to the generational changes and with television changing as well; they knew this was the age that people will watch a lot of television and that their customers have busy lives. USA Today has always been an innovator; for example, adding numbers to the magazine so their customers would have the

Society expect to be constantly entertained; they have become so concerned with things such as who the latest star is dating, scandals, or dumb people doing rather idiotic things. Much of society have been consumed in their personal instant gratification and what makes them “happy”. When on an off chance that news does show things that are serious and impactful(not necessarily positive things that is happening in the world) people have become so numb that the best they could do is feel sympathetic and at worst continue on with their day. The other part of the problem is that those behind what is being published and shown on the news media have been absorbed in their avarice nature, whatever allows them to make as much profit they do. “Writing thousands of hours of coverage from what could have been summarized in a couple of minutes every few weeks, a new rhetorical strategy was developed, or-let’s be generous-evolved”(6), Saunders describes the new formula formed by mass news firms that would yield the most profit.
A major continuity over time will always be shown in the world, even if an event took place years ago. In this standard many dates and time periods were stated. Wars broke out, new presidents took the stand, and a handful of laws were brought into place but were changed as time moved on. Even though these events were dated so long ago, they played a major role in the shaping of our nation. With the past events that occurred, these events are still practiced and used today.
