The period after the civil war saw the United States of America economy transform to become a national economy and an industrial giant. The already existing industries quickly expanded and new ones emerged including steel manufacturing, electrical power, and petroleum refining. This period saw the rapid expansion of the railroad network which would subsequently connect even the remote parts of the country into the national economic grid essentially transforming the regional markets into a national economy. To say the time period following the Civil War in the United States involved a lot of change would be a understatement. Between the years 1870 and 1900 the people of the United States lived through a period of great change. Not only did they witness technological advances that would change their daily lives, they also saw new laws and organizations formed. All of this was done in hopes of improving the country. Many of these changes came about because of the type of businesses that were formed.
During the World War I, American was highly influenced by the progressive movements. The progressive movements were focused in bringing the economic and industrial reforms and these reforms were achieved during the WWI. The U.S. was highly profited by the business with both sides of the war. More number of industries were built and foreign trade was blooming. The women and minorities were given equal opportunities as American men to work and earn for their families.
Economic Change in America Change is relevant within every time period, however, very substantial changes took place in the Americas following the War of 1812. Future success of the American society was to be dictated by the support the federal government supplied to domestic manufacturing and infrastructure to make drastic improvements economically. The imposition of high tariffs, advancements in transportation and the development of the cotton gin are among the most important changes made in the United States during this time.
When the long lasted Vietnam war ended in April of 1975, more than five thousands of Americans had been killed. Years after, American still suffered from far-reaching post-war consequences. The Vietnam War has affected the U.S. economically, socially, and politically. First, the war decreased the U.S. economy.
World War One actually helped American Industry. America only sent troops to fight in Europe in 1917 so American Industry was not affected by the war anywhere near as much as Britain and France, this helped America pull ahead of them to become the world’s leading exporter. American industry was also able to profit by selling war goods to Britain and France. By the end of the war in 1918 Britain owed the U.S. £900 million. But this also meant that Britain and France could not afford American food exports so when America started to overproduce grain this caused a big problem, especially when you consider the tariffs the British and French governments placed on imported American goods.

The Great Depression began because of a stock market crash in 1929 and came to end ten years later in 1939, around 15 million americans were unemployed and about half of the American banks failed. It was one of the darkest era in the United States.
This caused America to flourish with new inventions, for example the automobile, household machinery, television, etc. Even old inventions and ideas were improving, like the radio, movies, and the use of advertising. The radio, movies, driving, and buying the various new products became a part of the daily lives. These inventions created a sense of ease for daily lives in America in the 1920s. It made life, jobs, and experiences easier.
After WW1, America experienced a massive economic boom, with an increased demand for American goods and rapid industrial growth. When the war ended it hadn't really damaged society, instead it led to the demand for goods. In the early 1920s, many people were hopeless and disillusioned by the failure of Wilson’s plans to create a new world order, Americans were seeking stability.
City life was not the best. Cities were usually overcrowded, most immigrants lived in tenement housing. But soon urbanization picked up, and it got better, when neighborhoods formed, and people could breathe better with more space. America 's economy was and still is described as capitalism. And with the invention of the light bulb, the assembly line by Henry Ford, and the automobile, Mass production was able to support the rising economy of the U.S.
America has had a lot of technological upgrades throughout the years helping big industries make their way. The biggest advancement that occurred before World War I was the technology. Citizens of the United States went from riding on horseback on paths to driving cars through streets. They had made telephones to allow more efficient communication between people. These upgrades had an amazing impact on every aspect of early American life.
America’s Diverse Population In the nineteenth century, rates of immigration across the world increased. Within thirty years, over eleven million immigrants came to the United States. There were new types of people migrating than what the United States were used to seeing as well. Which made people from different backgrounds and of different race work and live in tight spaces together; causing them to be unified.
Shortly after, WWII came around and it pulled the economy back up by providing jobs for people. Not only did it provide jobs, but it also changed the way people lived and the ideas of consumerism. People now had more money to spend on things they wanted, rather than barely being able to afford necessities.
