Although Theodore Roosevelt was a member of the Republican Party for the majority of his life, he is best described as a Progressive. Progressives were politicians and activists who sought change in government and society. Roosevelt's pursuit for reform was one of his defining political traits that lasted throughout his career. Theodore Roosevelt was the first modern president to bring influential and powerful traits into the executive office. He was known for being an environmentalist activist even with tough obstacles in his way, Roosevelt believed that there's no boundaries to social and economic justice. Being loved by many for his modern culture understanding, and known for his part take in ending the Russo-Japanese war. Born on October 27, 1858, in New York City, Theodore was raised in a wealthy family at the time. His parents, Theodore Roosevelt Sr. and Martha Bulloch, pushed him to his limits even when the presence of asthma was known to strike Theodore from time to time. After the Spanish-American War incident of the USS Battleship Maine’s destruction, Theodore wanted to take upon his hands as the commander position in the first U.S, Cavalry known as the Rough Riders who were completely voluntarily.
