Thomas Edison was an American Inventor who invented some of the foundations for modern day technology. Some of his inventions include the telegraph, light bulb, and storage batteries. His innovations helped inspire some of the major technologies that we use today. Born on February 11, 1847, in Milan Ohio, he grew up with six other siblings and his parents. In 1854 him and his family moved to Port Huron, Michigan where he went to school for twelve weeks. He was a difficult student so his mom took him out of school and home schooled him. At age 11 Edison showed his passion for learning by reading books on different subjects. When Edison was twelve he began to create and sell newspapers called “Grand Trunk Herald”. This same year Edison created the Edison Illuminating Company. Western Union, but also lot of its rivals In 1876 he moved to Menlo Park, New Jersey to expand his labs, here he worked alone and companies tried to make him create a communication device. He did not do this but he created the phonograph, this was a device that could record sound, this wasn’t sold until another decade. By 1880s Edison will have been granted a patent for the light bulb and he had a plan to make a company that would deliver electric power and lights to cities across the world. This same year Edison created the Edison Illuminating Company. People have been trying to make this forever and now it was possible. After all these great invention just came more. He made the first power station. This power station powered New York City. Then he discovered the electron tube. Without this we might not have radios, T.V.’s, cd’s, computers, x-ray machines, or space travel. And after his death in 1931, his laboratory in Newark, New Jersey continued to invent things and make an impact on everyday lives of the common people of today's society.
