Our third president of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, had great intentions when he was elected into the presidency. The actions that took place during his eight years in office reflect the principles that Jefferson believed in, and that is what he wanted to achieve. One of Jefferson’s beliefs was having an agricultural-based economy and life, rather than commerce and federal power. “He believed a person who owned a farm and worked the land would be economically independent, and that independence would develop and preserve wisdom, self-control, courage, and fortitude.
Thomas Jefferson during his time in office faced many challenges with the new country. One major challenge and one of the biggest accomplishments during his presidency was the Louisiana Purchase. This turned out to be a huge issue for Jefferson because of the ordeals and the way he wanted to run the government. This was a major conflict in interest for Jefferson because he was a strict constitutionalist and followed it word for word. In the end what he did was completely overstep his powers as president doing what he feared would happen by purchasing the Louisiana territory without any approval from congress for 15 million dollars.
He even aimed and tried to establish a more perfect union by sending his men to fight off the Barbary pirates who were harassing the U.S commerce. ”He also sent a naval squadron to fight the Barbary pirates, who were harassing American commerce in the Mediterranean” (Frank Freidel). Purchasing the Louisiana Territory, displayed Jefferson expanding America into a better union. “At more than 820,000 square miles, the acquisition (which included lands extending between the Mississippi River and Rocky Mountains and the Gulf of Mexico to present-day Canada) effectively doubled the size of the United States” (History.com - Thomas Jefferson). The only thing Jefferson lacked was being fair to all, or establishing justice.
A lover of books and agriculture, a man more used to residing behind the scenes, and author of the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson, was a Republican-Democratic and the third president of the United States. Jefferson preferred a strict interpretation of the Constitution, a non centralized government, and instead leaving power to the states. He wanted to build the country on agriculture as opposed to Alexander Hamilton, his long-standing rival, on industrialization. However, going against his instincts, Jefferson was forced due to circumstances like foreign affairs, into becoming a more powerful executive, leading a more centralized government, than he might have desired.

He did this by describing the king’s tyranny against the colonies. He included all the reasons they were deciding to separate from Great Britain and proved that the decision was justified. This expedition led to the various information of the uncharted land with the scientific observations, maps, Native Indians information, and adventurous stories. Thomas Jefferson made the right choice in the purchase and Americans can realise what to expect in the land that would benefit farmers. During his presidency, he found a way to decrease the national debt in half by repealing many Federalist taxes, and this was a major accomplishment. There was a major conflict when Jefferson became president and that was the Marbury vs Madison judicial review incident.

Jefferson was also an architect, which would serve him well as the third president of the United States of America. Every person possessed certain inherent natural rights, which he defined as “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” This was the “Jeffersonian,” of Thomas Jefferson.
Thomas Jefferson, one of the most influential founding fathers in history, a Vice President alongside John Adams, and after that, a wonderful President himself. In his early political experience he was an illustrious Democratic-Republican, making him a front-runner for the consequent Presidential Election. When Jefferson became President, he considered it to be revolutionary for America to shift from a Federalist party, to a Democratic-Republic in office. As his presidency moved along, while controversial, Jefferson had a noticeable change-of-heart in the way he handled foreign and domestic issues, but only to the existential benefit of the people of America. Domestically, Jefferson faced a multitude of issues.
All presidents in this country have helped the country grow in some way or another. Lincoln abolished slavery and Washington won the revolutinary war. President Jefferson, however, served the country well as he helped expand the united states, wrote the declaration of independence, and served many other important roles. One of the very notable things Jefferson did, was writing the declaration of independence. This document brought clarity to the country as well as finally freed the Americans to form their own country under their rule.
