America’s discovery and the formation of Triangular Trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas drove many new advancements in technology and economics. For example, inflation caused the capitalism’s popularity to rise, new goods were discovered, and European empires thrived. As the Europeans discovered, the Americas contained many resources such as silver, gold, spices, and other valuable goods that were sold to make a surplus of profit. Another document that displays this is Document E, a graph that displays the money made from imports and exports from Africa, South of Sahara, in the year 1854 and in 1990. Looking at this graph, in 1854, imports and exports from and to Africa were considerably smaller compared to 1990. The overwhelming column for 1990 shows that Europeans exported more goods more often from Africa over time. Over the span of 136 years, Europeans have obviously have had an interest of exports of raw materials found in Africa as seen in this document, which brought them more than 20 million pounds in 1990.
Imperialism In Africa Imperialism was a huge advancement for Europeans in the nineteenth century. Europeans sought to colonize Africa in search for raw materials and markets. Colonies in Africa were affected negatively by Imperialism, it brought many problems regarding military, economic, and social changes to the African society. Warfare, natives losing their land, and foreigners degrading the natives were all significant effects that were bad for the Africans.
Europeans throughout history are known to believe that God wanted them to educate the world based on their beliefs. This was most apparent during European exploration and imperialism. This was not necessarily what the indigenous people thought though. Europeans influence had a great impact in different nations and was viewed differently too, whether it was cooperation from African tribes for slave trade to resistance from the Chinese government to legalize the trade of opium to a mix of both responses from Native American tribes. Many African tribe leaders cooperated with Europeans in the Atlantic Slave Trade.
So Europe invaded Africa, took possession of Africa, and divided Africa into colonies of Europe. The period of invasion, lasting some twenty years, was more or less completed by 1900. There followed a longer period, between sixty and ninety years, of direct European rule, called colonial rule. This was a time of profound upheaval for all of Africa’s peoples. Some people lived in larger, centralized states, while other lived in simple village communities. Islam was one of the most widespread religions in Africa before missionaries came to convert them to Christianity. This might have been a more positive influence if the Europeans hadn’t viewed the Africans as a people in need of refinement and guidance instead of understanding and respecting their culture. However, one benefit of Europe’s growing control of Africa was that the transatlantic slavery slowly came to an end, but in East Africa, slavery continued to run rampant. Although the end of much of the slavery did rid Africa of much exploitation, it continued in other ways including the harvest of copper, ivory, and other resources taken from the Congo, civilians forced into hard labor for little compensation, and little to no control of the government was given to native
After slaves were taken to slave forts along the coast, they were often kept there for several months at a time in brutal conditions before being taken across the Atlantic Ocean. When a ship was expected, local traders would clean the slaves up and put palm oil on them to make them appear more presentable after the months of poor conditions they endured. European slave traders would then come ashore and examine the people, and choose the ones they believed were most suitable for the hard labor they needed performed. Once they chose, they would transport the slaves by bringing them to the ship in large canoes. The ones that were not chosen were either beaten or murdered by their owners.

The Trans-Atlantic slave trade impacted and changed the world by misplacing and separating thousands of individuals from their families and homes. Thousands of people lost their lives when they were abducted and forced into slavery. Many did not survive the ship rides to the Americas. Many were murdered and tortured. Some were thrown of boats and died from diseases caught on the ship.
Each country sought an edge in expanding their economic prosperity against others. Europe did not have the abundance of raw materials, such as rubber, manganese, palm oil, and cotton that African intermediaries possessed. In order to overcome these arduous challenges, country’s strong-armed themselves into the African continent to obtain the necessary resources for the production of goods. The scramble for Africa continues to be one of the most famous examples of European imperialism. Africa was underdeveloped and countries like Britain used this to their advantage. Their plans did not include helping or supporting the country, but included plans used only for strategic interests for money. Industrialization gave European countries wealth, technology, and motivation to look beyond their homelands.
This classification should be added to the criteria for a multitude of reasons. First, the use of trade enables a civilization to spread the word of their own society to other people, and essentially attract more residents to live there, building its credibility and its specialized work. Second, according to the textbook, the country of Mali benefitted from all trans- Saharan trade by taxing all trade that went through Mali, greatly improving their economy as well as making their name known across all of Saharan Africa. (Arowolo 2010, 4) Colonialism caused an abrupt decline of culture and tradition in the colonies because the Europeans imposed a new culture on the African’s traditional one. Due to Africa’s subjugation and it being controlled by the Europeans, Western civilization and life style began shaping the colonies. While the colonization of the America’s was negative for many reasons such as the spread of illnesses, and the forcing of religion upon natives, it was also beneficial to the Native’s because it allowed them to have better weapons and to have different foods and goods in their lives. The Europeans exposed the Natives to many new diseases once they colonized the new areas they discovered. The Europeans greatly impacted the family life and religion of the inhabitants of the areas they found. There was also a lot of exchange going on during the conquest of the Americas because the Natives were excited by the new gadgets they had never seen before that the Europeans brought over.
