Voltaire often expressed his critical opinion of government and religion in writing as he did on Louis XIV and Fredrick the Great. He was imprisoned and exiled from multiple times from many countries. He was imprisoned in Bastille twice. He wanted to stop injustices such as adultery, which can be seen in his Dictonnaire Philosophique, however the only influence he had was in his writing even though he had played some roles in politics throughout his life. Voltaire was also a believer in the Enlightenment, was inspired by the science and mathematical theories by Isaac Newton and later used it in his writing. He wished to propel the idea of national scientific progress to all nations along with precise governmental practices.
